I never wanted to be a teacher. I did not like kids, so teaching was not what I wanted to do when I grew up. I liked reading, writing, and discussing both -- after a brief stint as a Pre-Med major, I landed in English, where I could focus on my interests (and receive significantly better grades). I received a BA in English back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I had to use floppy discs to write papers.
Before getting my Masters of Teaching in December, 2012, I was in Marketing, then I stayed home to be with my own children, then I worked as a Paraprofessional at their elementary school. Working in an elementary school meant that I got to see how fun it is to trick a student into learning. Selfishly, I decided to become a teacher.
I never wanted to be a teacher, but I love what I do. I love the fact that every single day, every single class has a new set of challenges and rewards. I did not like kids back then, but now I love that every single student brings a unique perspective to the classroom, and that I can be part of the process that helps an individual realize their potential. Today, I can be found evenings and weekends at our dining room table planning, creating power points, or grading for hours on end.
Now that I have grown up, I cannot imagine a more rewarding career.
